More funds to power clean energy training sector

Guy Barnett,Minister for Energy and Emissions Reduction

Round two of both the Energy and Infrastructure Workforce Development Fund and the Energising Tasmania Training Market Development Fund are now open to help strengthen Tasmania's energy sector.

We recognise that training the next generation of skilled workers to deliver on the significant energy and infrastructure projects currently in the pipeline needs a strong and focussed skills training sector.

Through the program eligible industry organisations and Registered Training Organisations are able to develop new, targeted training programs to build a skilled workforce.

Federal Member for Braddon, Gavin Pearce MP, said the $16 million Energising Tasmania project will equip Tasmanians with the skills to support our emerging renewable energy sector.

"The vocational education and training (VET) sector will play a vital role in ensuring that job-seekers in our region obtain the skills they need to maximise the exciting employment opportunities that are ahead of us" Mr Pearce said.

"Whether it's leadership and project management, engineering, civil construction, electrical generation or power systems, this is an investment that makes sure that our region is ready to go".

The Energy and Infrastructure Workforce Development Fund provides grants to eligible organisations such as peak industry bodies for projects that respond directly to the specific needs of Tasmania's energy and infrastructure sectors.

Round one of the program has already supported five workforce development projects across North West Tasmania focussed on the skills needs of renewable energy and clean hydrogen industries.

Importantly, it aims to provide an equitable spread of grants across regions, communities, industries and challenges that the industry itself has identified as key areas of need.

The Energy and Infrastructure Training Market Development Fund aims to increase the capacity of training organisations to support changing workforce needs.

Round one of the fund has so far supported four projects delivered through Registered Training Organisations with priorities determined on the advice of the Tasmanian Energy and Infrastructure Workforce Advisory Committee.

The two funds come as part of the joint Australian-Tasmanian Government $16 million Energising Tasmania initiative.

Energy and Infrastructure Workforce Development Fund is open as a single funding round closing on 23 September 2021.

Energy and Infrastructure Training Market Development Fund is open on an ongoing basis until 30 June 2022 or until all available funds are allocated.
