More Homes For Families And Young People In Boroondara

VIC Premier

The Allan Labor Government is welcoming hundreds of Victorians to their brand-new homes in Hawthorn and Boroondara - with the completion of a new development delivering more than 200 homes, including a 98 per cent increase in social homes on the site.

Premier Jacinta Allan and Minister for Housing Harriet Shing today visited the finished development at Bills Street to meet with residents.

The new buildings - which the Government fast-tracked - replace 52 outdated walk-up units with more than 200 new social and affordable homes.

The Labor Government is delivering homes for Victorians in well-connected suburbs and precincts across the state, including in thriving parts of Melbourne's inner suburbs close to transport, schools and services which enable families to stay connected to their communities.

Bills Street is near Kooyong Station, minutes away from shops and amenities on Auburn Road, has easy access to Auburn South Primary School and Auburn High School, and is surrounded by green space and parks including Patterson Reserve and the Gardiners Creek Trail.

Residents of the new development and the local community will enjoy accessible green spaces including playground equipment, an outdoor chess board and extra parking now available at Patterson Reserve thanks to new upgrades.

The Bills Street social homes will be managed by not-for-profit community housing provider Housing Choices Australia, and the affordable homes will be managed by the Victorian Affordable Rentals consortium.

The Labor Government's historic $6.3 billion investment in the Big Housing Build and Regional Housing Fund is delivering more than 13,300 new homes for Victorian families, with more than 9,700 already complete or underway. At least a quarter of homes are being built are in rural and regional Victoria.

We're also providing a further 4,000 new, energy efficient social homes through programs like the Public Housing Renewal Program, and through the Commonwealth Government's Social Housing Accelerator fund, another 769 homes will be built.

As stated by Premier Jacinta Allan

"We're building for our future by delivering more homes for all Victorians - to rent, to buy, and to live."

As stated by Minister for Housing Harriet Shing

"We've delivered more than 200 new homes at Bills Street - they are beautiful, bright and they offer local families access to great schools, transport and support services."

As stated by Member for Southern Metropolitan John Berger

"I can't wait to welcome the residents of Bills Street to their brand-new homes, delivered as part of our ongoing investment in social and affordable housing right across Victoria."
