Ninety Victorians are moving into new modern, energy efficient and accessible homes in Wangaratta, thanks to the Allan Labor Government's effort to provide housing for those who need it.
Minister for Housing Harriet Shing today welcomed the 90 residents into 44 new homes at Templeton Street - providing more Victorians access to safe and secure housing close to jobs, schools and services in the heart of Wangaratta.
The Labor Government invested $13.5 million in this project, partnering with Uniting Vic. Tas to more than double the number of homes at the site - meaning more vulnerable families in Wangaratta can live in homes designed to meet their needs.
The new homes meet the Silver Liveability Housing Standard, meaning they are designed to meet the changing needs of families across their lifetime. They are also 4 star certified Green Star and have a 7-star NatHERS rating, meaning they are warm in winter and cool in summer, while keeping bills lower for families.
The Labor Government's record $6.3 billion investment in housing is delivering more than 13,300 new social and affordable homes right across Victoria. In regional Victoria, more than 4,800 homes are already completed or underway.
This development is part of the Labor Government's $60 million investment in housing in the City of Wangaratta, delivering more than 170 homes as part of the Big Housing Build and other social housing programs.
As stated by Minister for Housing Harriet Shing
"Every Victorian deserves to live in a safe and secure home - that's why we're building thousands of homes in every corner of the state, including right here in Wangaratta."
"We've more than doubled the number of homes on this site, meaning more families in Wangaratta have access to safe, modern, and energy-efficient housing in a great location close to jobs, schools, and essential services."
As stated by Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes
I'm proud that the Labor government is building over 170 social and affordable homes in Wangaratta because it means more families can have a safe and secure home close to wonderful local schools, parks, and services."
