The Allan Labor Government has given the green light to build more than 100 homes in Murrumbeena - close to jobs, public transport and healthcare.
Minister for Planning Sonya Kilkenny today announced planning approval for 110 new homes, fast tracked through the Development Facilitation Program (DFP).
The DFP streamlines the planning process for shovel-ready projects to boost investment, keep people in jobs and create more homes for Victorians.
The 110 homes will be within walking distance of key local amenities including public transport, shops, schools and health services. The site will feature direct pedestrian access to Murrumbeena Train Station.
The project, on land made available through the Level Crossing Removal Project, will include a ten per cent affordable housing contribution, as we accelerate the rollout of social and affordable homes in some of Melbourne's most vibrant areas.
Since 1 January 2025, the DFP has streamlined eleven significant residential projects comprising 2,015 homes.
This follows a range of recent initiatives introduced as part of the landmark Housing Statement to cut red tape and fast-track approval of more developments, boosting housing supply across the state.
Victoria continues to lead the nation in housing approvals and completions and through the activity centres, updates to the Townhouse Code, the Great Design Fast Track, and the launch of Plan for Victoria - we're getting on with the job of building even more.
As stated by Minister for Planning Sonya Kilkenny
"We're fast tracking the development of good quality-homes, in great locations."
"A portion of this development is designated for affordable housing - meaning families will be living close to local schools, shops and healthcare."
As stated by Member for Oakeigh Steve Dimopolous
"Murrumbeena is a fantastic place to live - the fast-tracking of this development will mean more families will soon call this area home."
