The Allan Labor Government is delivering more social and affordable homes where Victorians want to live - close to transport, schools and jobs- with another big development topping out ahead of schedule.
Premier Jacinta Allan and Minister for Housing Harriet Shing today visited a new housing site in Mount Waverley to mark the topping out of the seven-storey building - a key milestone for the $50 million project.
Located on High Street Road and once the home of an abandoned swimming pool, the site will be complete by November and will feature 96 brand new, modern and secure homes.
The site will feature a mix of one-, two- and three-bedroom homes that meet the Gold and Silver Livable Housing Standards - meaning they're cool in summer and warm in winter, while helping residents cut down on power bills.
This development will give priority access to single, older women with key wraparound supports to be delivered through National Affordable Housing Consortium. Single women over the age of 55 are the fastest growing group of Australians experiencing or at risk of homelessness.
The site is included in the neighbourhood around the new Suburban Rail Loop (SRL) station at Glen Waverley, connecting residents to world-class jobs, education and transport services.
While more Victorians are moving into new homes each week, there are still challenges in the building sector right across Australia - with worker shortages, supply chain issues and builder insolvencies causing market uncertainty.
The Government's bold housing reforms that are creating the conditions for 800,000 new homes to be built over the next decade. Since the release of the Housing Statement, Victoria has seen record levels of application enquiries from across the sector, with more than 30,000 homes already in the pre-application pipeline.
The Government's $5.3 billion Big Housing Build is Australia's biggest ever investment in public and community housing, delivering more than 12,000 social and affordable homes across Victoria.
