Communities across Melbourne are set for a range of improvements to their local parks with tenders being sought for the next stage of the Urban Parks Active Wellbeing Program.
The works will see upgrades to 18 parks, from Point Cook to Mornington Peninsula, and include refurbished and new toilets, carpark repairs, upgraded BBQs, replaced playground equipment, new signage and trail repairs.
Melbourne's network of regional and national parks is where millions of people come to play, socialise and enjoy the benefits of being in nature. Many of the parks also attract visitors from interstate and abroad.
As well as playing a significant role in Melbourne's liveability, these places are natural landscapes that provide habitat and contain areas of significant environmental and cultural values.
The $21 million Urban Parks Active Wellbeing Program is delivering improvements that will continue to support healthy parks and healthy people.
Set to receive this next stage of upgrades are: Yarra Bend Park; Brimbank Park; Jells Park; Point Cook Coastal Park; Banksia Park; Birrurung Park; Westerfolds Park; Albert Park; Braeside Park, Karkarook Park; Maroondah, Silvan, Cardinia, Greenvale and Yan Yean Reservoir Parks, and Mornington Peninsula, Dandenong Ranges and Organ Pipes National Parks.
This follows the completion of upgrades at Braeside Park, Cardinia Reservoir Park and Greenvale Reservoir Park, and the delivery of new picnic tables made from recycled plastic to 17 parks.
As part of the same program, there will be works to extend Melbourne's Bay Trail and repair the Point Gellibrand seawall.
