More Jobs For Melbourne's West

Packaging and logistics giant Visy is opening a new corrugated cardboard plant in Melbourne’s West with backing from the Andrews Labor Government – creating 85 new jobs and boosting production.

Minister for Industry and Employment Ben Carroll today toured the $99 million state-of-the-art facility in Truganina to meet workers and inspect progress of the build.

Corrugated cardboard produced at the plant will be manufactured from 100 per cent recycled paper and cardboard for the local food and beverage market supporting primary producers, manufacturers and retailers.

The Labor Government’s support to secure the new plant in Melbourne’s West is part of $130 million in support for the state’s manufacturing sector which has created over 6,000 jobs and driven $1.6 billion in private investment.

Victoria’s manufacturing industry contributes $27.7 billion to the Victorian economy, with over 13,000 businesses employing more than 280,000 people. It also exported $18.16 billion of manufactured goods in 2016-17.

Victorian manufacturing is thriving, recording 17 months of consecutive growth in the Australian Industry Group’s Performance Manufacturing Index – the longest run of expansion since 2001.

As stated by Minister for Industry and Employment Ben Carroll

"Manufacturing in Victoria continues to go from strength-to-strength thanks to the backing of the Andrews Labor Government."

"We’re backing Visy’s massive expansion because it’ll boost our economy, create 85 new jobs and give work to former auto-workers."

As stated by Member for Koroit Marlene Kairouz
