The Allan Labor Government is giving more Victorian children the best start in life - with five brand-new modular kindergartens set to open across the state next year to meet increasing demand in growing communities.
Minister for Children Lizzie Blandthorn today announced the locations of the five new kindergartens thanks to a $13.8 million Labor Government investment - all set to open their doors in Term 1, 2025.
Modular kindergartens are constructed off-site in a factory, in sections known as modulars, to take advantage of quicker construction time and reduced disruptions, costs and risks.
The project at Swifts Creek P-12 will deliver a one-room kindergarten and playground on the school site. This will replace and expand the existing kindergarten in Swifts Creek, providing an extra 34 kindergarten spots for the community.
Nhill College will receive an extra one-room kindergarten, a playground and car parking, catering for a further 33 places for early learners.
At Dover Street Preschool, the existing kindergarten will be replaced with a modern two-room modular kinder, providing an additional 30 spots for local children.
In Geelong at Covenant College, locals can expect a brand-new playground and a three-room kindergarten, providing an additional 69 places, increasing capacity from the existing 30 places.
To meet urgent demand in Yea, a one room kindergarten, playground and carpark facilities are set to open at Yea Primary School, to provide an extra 33 kindergarten spots for the local community.
This announcement forms part of the Victorian Budget 2019/20'sfunding of $283 million in funding for Three-Year-Old Kindergarten capital funding.
The Labor Government is investing billions to build and expand hundreds of kindergartens across the state, supporting the delivery of 15 hours of Three-Year-Old Kindergarten each week by 2029 and 30 hours of Pre-Prep each week by 2036.
