The Lawler Labor Government is delivering on its common sense plan to keep Territorians safe and get more police on our streets.
There will be 64 new police college graduates being sworn in at the end of this month.
The new constables will play a critical role in bolstering Northern Territory Police Force numbers to lower crime and improve community safety.
The latest recruit graduation comes as expressions of interests for the Territory Safety Division Darwin, an elite policing unit, are about to go out calling for experienced officers to join the specialised squad.
Currently, the Darwin Territory Safety Division comprises of 19 officers and is growing towards a fully formed tactical team of 52.
These highly competitive positions are able to be filled as more officers than ever before continue to graduate from the Police College.
The Lawler Labor Government's common sense plan to reduce crime includes a record $570 million boost to the Police budget over five years.
This record budget boost will deliver 200 more police officers - taking the sworn officer target to 1842 - and 71 non-sworn operational support staff across the Territory. It will also deliver a dedicated police infrastructure program that will invest $125 million to build new stations, watch houses and other critical infrastructure to keep Territorians safe.
The Lawler Government is building on the success of the Police College, ensuring our officers are supported throughout their career in this difficult job. This support varies from officer to officer but can involve up to $20,000 for relocation, housing allowances of $30,000 per year or free housing, yearly salary increases, flexible shift work, added night shift allowances and increased hourly rates for remote work.
