VIC Premier

The Allan Labor Government is delivering more train and tram services as thousands of racegoers gear up for the biggest racing carnival in Australia.

Minister for Public and Active Transport Gabrielle Williams today announced more than one thousand extra train and tram services will be added to Melbourne's public transport network for the four major days of the Spring Racing Carnival.

This will include almost 300 extra services on Melbourne Cup Day alone, ensuring thousands of fans can leave the car at home and get to and from the track.

Metro Trains will have services running regularly in and out of Flemington Racecourse Station, with trains departing from Flinders Street, Southern Cross and North Melbourne stations.

On Oaks Day, which is typically the busiest day of the year on the train network, an extra 188 trains will run to Flemington - and on Stakes Day, an additional 230 services will operate.

These services are in addition to the normal weekday timetable, which will include more than 2,200 services for commuters across the rest of the network.

Additional tram services on Route 57 will also operate from Elizabeth Street to Showgrounds, taking people directly to the entrance of the Flemington Racecourse on Epsom Road.

To ensure the day goes smoothly, Metro Trains' control centre will be monitoring CCTV to quickly respond to safety incidents and allow for quick emergency services response.
