More Skilled Migration Places Secured for Tasmanian Workforce

Felix Ellis, Minister for Skills and Training

The number of state nominated skilled migration places will more than double for Tasmania in 2024-25.

2,100 places will be available under the Skilled Nominated (subclass 190) Visa and 760 places for the Skilled Work Regional (subclass 491) Visa.

Minister for Skills and Training, Felix Ellis said the State Government worked closely with the Commonwealth Government to secure nearly 2900 places.

"This is a really good outcome for local industries and local communities," Minister Ellis said.

"With Tasmania's record low unemployment rate, many crucial local industries are finding it hard to recruit and retain the right staff with the right skills at the moment, including sectors like healthcare, building and construction, advanced manufacturing and renewable energy, as well as the tourism and hospitality industries.

"This year's allocation of places better recognises the importance of ensuring Tasmanian businesses have access to more skilled workers so they can help deliver the services our communities need.

"Skilled migration helps to fill vacancies by providing a pathway for new workers with skills and qualifications who can hit the ground running."

The 2024-25 Tasmanian nomination program will be open to new registrations of interest in the coming weeks with more information to be made available on the Migration Tasmania website at www.migration.tas.gov.au.

"We'll be expecting a high response rate from people that know that Tasmania is the best place to live, work and raise a family," Minister Ellis said.

"Importantly, under our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future, we will keep investing in building our local skilled workforce."
