The Crisafulli Government is delivering 60 new social and affordable homes in Nerang, building a place to call home for more Queenslanders on the Gold Coast.

Delivered in partnership with Community Housing Provider St Vincent de Paul Society Queensland Housing, the Nerang project is the first of Vinnies Queensland's 500 Homes initiative, which will see more homes across the State built for Queenslanders in need.

The Nerang development will add 53 social homes and seven affordable homes for low-to-moderate income earners, part of the Crisafulli Government's plan deliver to 53,500 additional social and community homes by 2044 under the Securing Our Housing Foundations Plan.

Construction is expected to start within weeks with the homes due for completion in the second half of 2026.

The Crisafulli Government is growing community housing across Queensland thanks to a new Master Agreement with Community Housing Providers to modernise agreements and cut red tape.

Under Labor, progress on a unified agreement stalled for more than seven years, leaving the sector buried in more than 2,000 outdated and inconsistent agreements.

This held back community housing, which led to a soaring social housing waitlist of around 50,000 Queenslanders.

The new Master Agreement will introduce a streamlined framework and reduce the number of agreements down to just 114, simplifying compliance and allowing Community Housing Providers to focus on what matters most: managing and delivering homes.

Minister for Housing and Public Works Sam O'Connor said the project demonstrated how the Crisafulli Government was accelerating supply by joining forces with community housing providers.

"Labor added just 509 social homes on average per year over the last decade but we're ramping up construction to deliver the new builds our growing Gold Coast deserves," Minister O'Connor said.

"We have 581 social and affordable homes currently under construction or under contract on the Gold Coast alone, so more Queenslanders have a place to call home.

"We're getting on with the job of reversing Labor's housing crisis by getting shovels in the ground, backing our community housing sector, and making sure tradies have the right regulatory environment to deliver more homes."

Vinnies Queensland CEO, Kevin Mercer, said the scale of Queensland's housing crisis was immense and the delivery of more social and affordable housing was vital to provide hope to the 47,820 Queenslanders currently on the social housing wait list – many waiting on average of two years for a suitable home.

"Vinnies Queensland is proud to lead the 500 Homes project, building 562 homes across the state to give vulnerable Queenslanders not just a roof over their heads, but access to the wrap-around support they need to rebuild their lives," said Mr Mercer.

"This milestone is about more than the start of construction — it's the beginning of a new chapter for individuals and families who've spent far too long waiting for a safe and secure place to call home. It marks a turning point where housing and hope come together.

"We believe housing is the foundation of a stable, dignified life and through this project and partnerships, we're not just building homes — we're building futures."
