The Liberal Nationals Government will invest $404,925 in upgrading and improving sporting facilities in Helena Valley, Mount Helena, Chidlow, Forrestfield, Mahogany Creek, and Kalamunda to help increase sporting participation and get the local community more active, more often.
"Support like this for grassroots sports is about stronger, healthier and happier communities," Federal Member for Hasluck, Ken Wyatt MP, said today.
"Our Government recognises the wider social and community benefits that come from greater activity and participation.
"It is a key priority of our government to promote the social and health benefits of physical activity and sport and our investment to upgrade facilities and infrastructure will provide a real encouragement for those local residents not currently active."
The investment in local sporting facilities will go towards upgrades that improve the amenity and functionality like new toilets, upgraded lighting and installing irrigation, including:
1. Kalamunda Club: $259,602 for the replacement of 'Bowling Green B'
2. Chidlow Cats Basketball Club: $49,850 to re-surface the hard courts for basketball, netball and tennis, fit out of rooms for storage, repair of lighting and installation of new boards
3. Mahogany Creek Progress Association: $45,850 to re-surface the two main tennis courts, rebuild steps and retaining walls, add safety rails, and upgrade kitchen
4. Forrestfield Tennis Club: $20,000 to re-surface the courts
5. Shire of Mundaring: $16,373 to construct a shade shelter over the existing Helena Valley hard courts
6. Shire of Mundaring: $13,250 to re-surface two of the Mt Helena tennis courts
The investment is part of the Liberal Nationals Government's Community Sport Infrastructure Grant program.
Mr Wyatt said only the Liberals and Nationals have a strong plan for regional Australia that puts locals first.
"The Liberal National government is able to make these important investments in community sporting infrastructure because our responsible economic management that will deliver a budget surplus," Mr Wyatt said.
"In round 2 of the program Mundaring Tennis Club received $150,460 for court re-surfacing and the Forrestfield Rhinos Rugby Club received $180,000 to upgrade their club rooms to be suitable for new women's teams and universal access."
"In round 1, the Mundaring Hardcourts up at the site of the new Mundaring Arena received $245,791."
"The Mundaring Oval nearby, which received $130,000 in 2016 as part of a planned three-way agreement between local, state and federal governments recently received a further $65,000 to make up for the State Labor Government refusing to honour the agreement after winning the 2017 State Election."
"This means that, in total, Hasluck has received over $1.1 million across these important community sporting projects, which are direct investments into a culture of sport and healthy living that I am pleased now extends beyond gender boundaries and is increasingly inclusive," Mr Wyatt said.
