More Time To Have Your Say On Dog Welfare Reforms

Tasmanian Government

The Tasmanian Government understands dog welfare is an important issue for our community and wants to ensure everyone has time to have their say on potential reforms.

Minister for Primary Industries and Water, Jane Howlett, said she shares the community's desire for improved dog welfare outcomes in Tasmania.

"This Government is committed to implementing sensible reforms to prevent over breeding, improve traceability and welfare for all dogs," Minister Howlett said.

"In November, I invited comments on the Discussion Paper - Improving Dog Welfare Outcomes in Tasmania to start this important conversation and invite feedback based on sound scientific practice and research.

"With over 100 submissions received already, we have decided to extend the period of public consultation on the Discussion Paper.

"The submission period will now be extended from today, 20 December, until 17 January 2025.

"As part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future we are improving animal welfare measures and I want to get this review right, so we have the best dog welfare regulation here in Tasmania with full input from the community."
