The Morrison Government is helping to set up young Western Australians for well-paying careers through a new Industry Training Hub in Wanneroo, which joins the Armadale Industry Training Hub opened in May.
The Wanneroo Training Hub is one of 10 being trialled across Australia, as part of the Morrison Government's $50.6 million investment to improve opportunities for Year 11 and 12 students in regions with high youth unemployment.
The Training Hubs will strengthen partnerships between local employers, industries and schools to help students focus on developing skills for occupations most relevant to their region.
Minister for Employment, Workforce, Skills, Small and Family Business, Stuart Robert, said young people may face longer periods of unemployment than other age groups.
'The Morrison Government is investing a record $6.4 billion in skills and training to fund our jobs plan, which includes Training Hubs, and this investment will help young Australians into high-quality jobs,' he said.
'We want to get more young Western Australians into jobs, whether it is through our $2.7 billion investment securing the next generation of Australian apprentices or our $2 billion JobTrainer fund or indeed through our Industry Training Hubs like this one in Wanneroo, it is all about assisting young Western Australians to build skills today and get into jobs tomorrow,' Minister Robert said.
Member for Pearce Christian Porter said the Morrison Government is committed to assisting young people across the Perth region to build skills today that help them get into the jobs of tomorrow.
'The Wanneroo Training Hub will act as a bridge between our schools and local industry, helping to promote vocational education and training in areas where there is a growing demand for skilled workers,' Mr Porter said.
'By helping to meet the needs of local industries, we are also ensuring our young people have a better chance of getting into well paid and rewarding careers.'
The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Western Australia has been awarded the contract for the Wanneroo Training Hub.
Each Training Hub is managed by a full-time Career Facilitator who will help create better links between schools and local industry. Ms Megan Strong has been appointed as Career Facilitator to manage the Wanneroo Hub. The Career Facilitator plays an integral role in the Training Hub as an on-the-ground presence to map skills shortages and form local partnerships.
Training Hubs are under way in Burnie, Townsville, Maryborough, Port Pirie, Shepparton, Armadale (WA), and Gosford.
