Susie Agoston has been named 2025 Mosman Citizen of the Year.
The honour was announced as part of an Australia Day event on 26 January at Mosman Drill Hall, which also included a citizenship ceremony.
Long-standing Mosman resident Susie was recognised for her many contributions across the arts, sports, education and philanthropy - from curating art exhibitions that provide a platform for Indigenous artists to share their stories and culture, to leading bush regeneration efforts in places such as Memory Park, to coaching community and school-based netball teams, and spearheading fundraising efforts for vital causes.
The award followed a community-led nomination process.
Mosman Mayor Ann Marie Kimber said Susie was a worthy recipient of the Citizen of the Year honour.
"As a long-time resident of Mosman, Susie has leveraged her diverse talents to foster cultural awareness, community engagement, and support for Indigenous communities, including as an accomplished artist and documentary filmmaker," Mayor Kimber said.
"Whether she's teaching art classes to local kids, rallying the neigbourhood to donate belongings to the Indigenous communities she supports through her charity, or planting native flora, she does it with passion and creative flair, because she cares."
Mayor Kimber said Susie had welcomed with open arms many Mosman residents into her family of volunteers and supporters, making the community feel not just included but valued.
Susie said receiving the Citizen of the Year Award was an opportunity to amplify goodwill and welcome more volunteers, contributors, and donors.
"With greater support, we can expand our humanitarian programs and environmental projects - so many plans are ready to take flight. This is just the beginning of what is possible," she said.
Mayor Kimber also presided over a citizenship ceremony, with 60 conferees from 29 countries taking the pledge to become Australian citizens.
"It is always a privilege to preside over a citizenship ceremony and welcome our newest Australians to the wonderful community we have here in Mosman," she said.
Nationally, more than 20,600 people from over 150 countries were invited to attend one of more than 380 citizenship ceremonies hosted by local government councils and other organisations as part of their Australia Day events program, information from the Department of Home Affairs shows.
