A motorbike rider has been arrested after PolAir followed him for more than five hours driving at excessive speeds through the northern suburbs.
About 8.12pm on Sunday 8 January, police were travelling on Westbury Street at Davoren Park when they spotted a motorbike being ridden at speed.
Patrols followed the motorbike to Fordingbridge Road where it accelerated at a speed in excess of 100km/h in a 60km/h zone away from police.
PolAir which was already proactively patrolling in the air, tracked the motorbike through the northern and north eastern suburbs for a period of about five and a half hours.
During this time police will allege the rider disobeyed a number of red traffic lights and reached speeds in excess of 100km/h over the speed limit.
The rider stopped to re-fuel on Crisp Road at Elizabeth Downs and he was quickly arrested without incident. A 34-year-old man of no fixed address was charged with five counts of driving at an extreme speed, dangerous driving to escape a police pursuit, driving without due care, driving in a manner dangerous to the public, driving unlicensed and other traffic offences. He did not apply for bail and will appear in Elizabeth Magistrates Court today (Monday 9 January).
