Motorcyclist critical after crash - South Coast

A critical incident investigation has been launched after a man suffered critical injuries in a motorcycle crash in the state's south today.

Shortly after 5pm (Wednesday 3 February 2021), an officer attached to Traffic and Highway Patrol - Far South, noticed a motorcycle, allegedly travelling at speed, heading northbound on the Princes Highway at Wandandian.

The officer followed the motorbike for a short distance as it turned into Wandean Road, however, soon lost sight of the bike.

The officer continued along Wandean Road where he came across the motorcyclist crashed on the side of the road.

The 19-year-old rider was treated at the scene before being airlifted to St George Hospital in a critical condition.

A critical incident team from Lake Illawarra Police District will now investigate all circumstances surrounding the incident.

That investigation will be subject to independent review.
