A 69-year-old Mount Compass man is due before Victor Harbor Magistrates Court to face a charge of ill-treatment of an animal to cause death or serious harm.
It will be alleged that in October last year the defendant failed to take reasonable steps to mitigate serious harm suffered by a cow that had become stuck shoulder-deep in water in a dam on the defendant's property, and that the defendant left the cow to become exhausted and die.
A 71-year-old man is due to face the Port Adelaide Magistrates Court charged with two counts of ill-treatment of an animal in relation to a cat that was injured in a steel-jaw trap. The defendant is further charged with breaching Animal Welfare Regulations for allegedly setting a steel jaw trap.
A 56-year-old Semaphore Park woman is due to appear in the Port Adelaide Magistrates Court to face two counts of ill-treatment of an animal.
The woman allegedly failed to provide adequate and appropriate food and water for eight cats and failed to provide adequate and appropriate living conditions for the animals.
A 40-year-old man and a 41-year-old woman from Renmark are due to face the Berri Magistrates Court on two counts of animal ill-treatment over the living conditions of four cats and four guinea pigs that were in their care. The animals were found by an RSPCA inspector to be living in their own urine and faeces. The woman is further charged with breaching an earlier order prohibiting her from owning animals due to prior offending against the Animal Welfare Act.
A 64-year-old woman, her 62-year-old husband and their 28-year-old daughter, all from Davoren Park, are due to appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court to face three charges of ill-treatment of an animal. The charges are in relation to two miniature poodles found suffering serious, untreated medical conditions, with one of the dogs in such poor condition he was humanely euthanised after seizure.
A 48-year-old woman is due to face the Elizabeth Magistrates Court charged with failure to comply with a court order restricting the number of animals she is allowed to have in her care or custody. RSPCA SA inspectors attended at the woman's Lewiston property on 17 October 2023 and seized 86 dogs and puppies, three rabbits and two guinea pigs. In August 2023, the woman was convicted on animal ill-treatment charges in relation to a Parrakie dog breeding facility that had more than 300 dogs and puppies. She received a three-month prison term, suspended on condition of a $500, three-year good behaviour bond.
A 61-year-old man and a 39-year-old woman are due before the Elizabeth Magistrates Court to face three charges of animal ill-treatment. The first charge is for alleged failure to provide appropriate and adequate food, water, living conditions or exercise for two ponies and a horse. All the animals were found in emaciated condition on a property south of Gawler. The second charge is for alleged failure to get veterinary treatment for one of the ponies, who was very unwell and had a large, infected wound on her face, neck and jaw area. The third charge is for alleged failure to provide appropriate and adequate food, water, living conditions or exercise and alleged failure to mitigate harm suffered by two dogs. One was emaciated, the other thin and suffering a severe chronic ear infection and both dogs were bleeding and itching with huge flea burdens.
A 39-year-old woman will face Elizabeth Magistrates Court on three charges of animal ill-treatment. The accused is alleged to have failed to adequately feed two dogs in late 2023 and to have abandoned a third dog two months later.
A 35-year-old Morphett Vale woman is due before the Christies Beach Magistrates Court to face two counts of ill-treatment of an animal.
The charges are in relation to two dogs found in emaciated condition. One of the dogs also had pressure sores on his hocks, a chronic ear infection and chronic untreated dental disease.
A 66-year-old man is due to before the Kadina Magistrates Court to face five charges of animal ill treatment. The charges are in relation to four dogs found with serious medical issues that had not been taken to a veterinarian. Two of the dogs had to be euthanised.
Two women, both aged 32, are due to appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court after being jointly charged with five counts of animal ill-treatment. The charges relate to 16 cats and kittens, two Maremma dogs (one found in emaciated condition, the other thin and found locked inside a small crate) and two rabbits. All the animals were allegedly being kept in poor living conditions at a property in Adelaide's northern suburbs. They are now in protective custody with RSPCA SA.
A 26-year-old woman and a 46-year-old man are due before the Port Adelaide Magistrates Court to face five counts of ill-treatment of an animal. The charges are in relation to three dogs found at the defendants' property in Cheltenham in July last year. All three dogs were in emaciated condition, with one of the dogs in such poor condition he could no longer walk unassisted. The dogs remain in protective custody with RSPCA SA.
A 25-year-old woman is due before the Elizabeth Magistrates Court on a charge of ill-treatment of an animal after she allegedly failed to provide adequate food and water for a dog. The dog was found in a severely emaciated state at an Elizabeth Grove address in April this year. The defendant surrendered the dog to RSPCA SA, and he has now recovered and been rehomed.
