The Mount Sinai Hospital and Mount Sinai Queens have once again attained Magnet Recognition® by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). With this announcement, The Mount Sinai Hospital will celebrate its fifth consecutive recognition and third consecutive for Mount Sinai Queens. Mount Sinai earned this prestigious recognition, highlighted by nine exemplars, based on a thorough review of data and other key information included in the Magnet document and evaluated during the site visit. This special commendation acknowledges work that surpasses standard expectations, showcasing excellence in nursing practice and patient care.
The ANCC Magnet Recognition Program honors health care organizations that excel in nursing leadership, team member resiliency, and improved patient outcomes. The Mount Sinai Hospital was one of the first in New York City to achieve Magnet Recognition in 2004. Mount Sinai Queens, first included in the designation in 2015, is the only Queens hospital to earn it three consecutive times. Mount Sinai South Nassau first earned Magnet Recognition in 2014 and most recently achieved redesignation in 2023.
"This is a remarkable achievement. To put this into perspective, less than one percent of United States hospitals have achieved this recognition five consecutive times," said Beth Oliver, DNP, RN, FAAN, Chief Nurse Executive, Mount Sinai Health System. "To all of our nurses, it is perhaps even more gratifying to know that it is our patients, families, and colleagues who are the ultimate beneficiaries of your exquisite care. Your continued dedication to Creating Excellence Together ensures we provide the highest-quality, safest, and most compassionate care possible to all."
Since its inception in 1990, the Magnet program has become the gold standard for nursing excellence, identifying hospitals dedicated to exceptional patient care. This recognition fosters a culture of empowerment, enhancing job satisfaction among nursing staff and leading to better patient outcomes and increased retention of nursing talent.
"This achievement exemplifies our shared mission to surpass expectations and improve health outcomes for all the communities we serve." said Lorisa Richards, DNP, FNP, RN, NE-BC, Acting Chief Nursing Officer, The Mount Sinai Hospital. "Achieving and maintaining Magnet status is a continuous journey of improvement. The Mount Sinai Hospital and Mount Sinai Queens are poised to continue empowering their nursing teams to innovate and provide world-class, patient-centered care."
"I am so very proud of our nurses for this incredible achievement," said Jill Goldstein, MA, MS, RN, Deputy Chief Nursing Officer, Vice President of Nursing, Mount Sinai Queens. "This redesignation is a tribute to our entire nursing staff and support teams, and it perfectly demonstrates their empowerment and commitment to nursing excellence."
"This achievement speaks volumes to the exceptional engagement of our nursing staff," said Deborah Feehan, DHSc, MSN, RN, GERO-BC, MEDSURG-BC, CPM, Magnet Program Director for The Mount Sinai Hospital and Mount Sinai Queens. "Their skill, knowledge, and compassion are key to the high-quality patient care that the Magnet appraisers validated and observed. We stand proud as a Magnet hospital and celebrate our nursing team's unwavering dedication to delivering the highest quality of care to our patients."
"This Magnet designation reflects the quality and superb outcomes of the nursing team," said David L. Reich, MD, President, The Mount Sinai Hospital and Mount Sinai Queens, and Chief Clinical Officer, Mount Sinai Health System. "Congratulations and thank you to all the Mount Sinai nurses, nurse leaders, interprofessional team members, and ancillary colleagues who consistently demonstrate and strive to improve safe, compassionate, and quality patient- and family-centered care."
