NSW Nationals Member for Myall Lakes, Tanya Thompson, has congratulated the Mountain View Archers in Wingham for their success in securing a $9226.88 grant under the NSW Local Sport Grant Program.
Mrs Thompson has gone to Wingham Showground to visit the archery club and deliver the news in person.
"This is fantastic news for our Mountain View Archers. Their successful grant application will enable them to repair their rubber 3D animal targets, which require replacing once worn out," Mrs Thompson said.
3D archery, unlike traditional target archery, involves shooting at three-dimensional targets, often shaped like game animals, across varying distances and terrain.
"These repaired targets will ensure the club's continuity with the 3D Archery Association. It will not only facilitate training for tournaments but will continue to allow for the hosting of tournaments within the Myall Lakes electorate."
Mountain View Archers secretary and treasurer, Nick Cooper, said the club has produced several state champions, with members competing at the highest level.
"The funds will enable the club to continue operating as a 3D club through the next decade. We can attract more local members and stage annual tournaments at our Killawarra range.
"These events attract hundreds of people to the local area, bringing all the benefits that sport tourism provides," said Mr Cooper.
"As the second oldest member of the club, it has provided me with an excellent path in retirement to a purposeful, challenging occupation," he said.
