Mowing schedules for the Shoalhaven's open spaces will be published on Council's website by the end of March.
Following a resolution on 18 February this year, Council voted to develop and publish a public mowing schedule that outlines when Council-maintained parks, reserves and open spaces are due for cutting across towns and villages.
Mayor Patricia White explained that while the program would provide insight into the frequency of when local areas were due for a mow, as residents would appreciate, weather and staffing and equipment availability could impact the schedule and make it subject to change at very short notice.
"The Shoalhaven has around 1,200 reserves and parks in addition to sportsgrounds, facilities and grassed pathways that need regular mowing and maintenance," Cr White said.
"Our community wants to know when the grass in their local area is being cut so I'm glad we can now provide a schedule that will indicate when and where is next on the list," she said.
"Council crews love caring for our grass and making everything look great, but it does have its challenges when it comes to the seasons and inclement weather."
Wet weather is a particular barrier to mowing and keeping to schedule. When soil is sodden, it can cause mowers to bog and lead to equipment and ground damage.
Residents can also expect to see more mowing in the summer months when the grass grows quickly, and less mowing in winter when there is minimal growth.
A dedicated page on Council's website will be publish by the end of March and this will be communicated on Council's channels when ready.
