Upgrades to the municipality's roads continue at the forefront of Ararat Rural Council's commitment to improving local infrastructure, as another significant project gets underway.
Having previously been delayed due to rain, road resealing works have now commenced in Moyston this week, as surface repair works are carried out in preparation for sealing several vital roads within the township. Once these surface repair works are completed, the roads will be sealed using the innovative road sealant Otta.
Roads to receive Otta sealing include:
- Presbyterian Church Road, from Ararat-Halls Gap Road to Moyston Creek Road, and up to the Fire Station.
- Moyston Creek Road, from Ararat-Halls Gap Road to Presbyterian Church Road.
- School Road, from Ararat-Halls Gap Road to Moyston Rocky Point Road.
Otta seal is a bituminous road sealant developed in Norway which is both low cost and requires far less maintenance than traditional road sealing methods. Resurfacing the road only takes a few hours using Otta, making the road usable almost immediately afterwards. Otta also offers a major reduction in dust, improving driver visibility and decreasing health problems caused by fine particles.
This vital project is part of the Urban to Gravel Roads initiative under Council's Capital Works Program, which specifically targets the upgrade of urban gravel roads.
"The commencement of urban road sealing works in Moyston marks another key milestone in our commitment to upgrading our roads," said Ararat Rural City Council CEO, Dr Tim Harrison. "This new road sealing technology will not only extend the life of Moyston's roads but also enhance road safety for the community."
