Much Loved Tree To Get Some TLC

Kempsey Shire Council

A much-loved fig tree on Kemp Street is booked in to get some much-needed attention from a team of 'tree doctors' after losing two large limbs late last year.

The tree is part of an iconic pair of fig trees on the Kemp Street Sporting Complex which have provided shade and shelter to people and animals alike for decades.

Council understands that the community are concerned about the health of the tree and would like to see the tree retained if at all possible. In good news, Arborists have assessed the tree's condition and recommended that some careful pruning will be sufficient to ensure the health of the tree into the future.

The pruning works will begin on Thursday 10 April at 7:30am (weather permitting), with a team of arborists onsite to conduct the work. There will also be an ecologist on site and a representative from Kempsey Local Aboriginal Land Council, who will both be keeping a close eye on proceedings.

There will also be some minor landscape works done to help the tree in the future, which will be scheduled soon after the pruning works. The site fencing will be removed after the works are complete.

Council thanks the community for their patience and hopes people will be able to continue enjoying this beloved tree for years to come.
