Premier Roger Cook and Education Minister Tony Buti today officially opened Western Australia's newest public secondary school, Piara Waters Senior High School.
A full cohort of Year 7 students has already moved into the $59 million state-of-the-art school, with the administration block, student service area, education support centre, library and information resource centre completed earlier in the year.
The school's students will also have access to food and technology areas and specialist design and technology facilities with contemporary resources and machinery. Other facilities include eight outdoor courts, a grassed oval for soccer, hockey, football and cricket, and an indoor sports hall for physical education.
In addition to Piara Waters Senior High School, the Cook Government has opened four brand new primary schools this year Landsdale Gardens Primary School, Madora Bay Primary School, Dayton Primary School and Wellard Village Primary School.
Other major public school infrastructure projects opened in 2023 include the second stages of Ridge View Secondary College and Bob Hawke College, and a number of major upgrades at schools including Carine Senior High School, Pinjarra Senior High School, Australind Senior High School and Albany Senior High School.
Four new primary schools are under construction, with Henley Brook Primary School and Jilbup Primary School due to open in 2024, and Eglinton South West (planning name) and Brabham East (planning name) expected to open in 2025.
These projects are all part of the State Government's significant $1.5 billion capital school infrastructure program to deliver better public school facilities across WA.
