Multiple Arrests At Thebarton

More than a dozen people were arrested after police responded to a fight on a bus at Thebarton this morning.

Just after 8.30am on Wednesday 1 January, a group of people got on the bus on West Terrace and became involved in a fight. The bus driver stopped the bus on George Street, Thebarton and emergency services were alerted.

A woman sustained head injuries during the incident and was transported to hospital by ambulance. Her injuries are not considered life-threatening at this time.

Two other people also sustained minor injuries and were conveyed to hospital.

The bus driver was not injured; however, damage was caused to the bus.

Seventeen people were arrested at the scene.

The arrests include:

  • a 22-year-old man from the State's Far North
  • a 39-year-old woman from Greenwith
  • a 21-year-old woman from Ridleyton
  • a 31-year-old woman from Seaton
  • a 13-year-old girl from Seaton
  • a 29-year-old man from Seaton
  • a 20-year-old man from Seaton
  • a 58-year-old man from the State's Far North
  • a 19-year-old man from Seaton
  • a 45-year-old woman from the State's Far North
  • a 19-year-old man from Seaton
  • a 17-year-old girl from Greenwith
  • a 26-year-old man from the Northern Territory
  • a 28-year-old woman from Croydon Park
  • a 22-year-old woman from Seaton
  • a 22-year-old man from Marion
  • a 25-year-old woman from Greenwith

The arrested people were charged with aggravated affray and property damage and barred from public transport for a minimum of three months. They were bailed to appear in court at a later date.

Investigations into the incident are continuing, with police still needing to speak to everyone involved once they are medically able.

Police wish to reassure the community that the people involved were known to each other and this was not a random incident.
