Federation Council is proud to announce the completion of significant upgrades to Apex Park and the Lake Mulwala Swim Enclosure in Mulwala, made possible by a $484,950 grant from the NSW Government's Open Space Program – Places to Swim.
This funding has transformed the popular recreational area, creating improved access and amenities for the community to enjoy the beautiful Lake Mulwala. The project aimed to enhance safety, accessibility, and overall user experience.
Key improvements delivered through the project include:
- Refurbishment of public toilets, including painting, lighting upgrades, and new fixtures;
- Installation of a shade sail, new fencing, and soft fall for the playground;
- Construction of an all-abilities pontoon for easy access to the swim enclosure;
- Repair of hand railing and entry ladders for the swim enclosure platform;
- Installation of new lighting at the swim enclosure;
- Provision of new rescue life buoys;
- Installation of new accessible park furniture;
- Construction of new accessible pedestrian pathways;
- Installation of a new all-abilities BBQ and drink fountain;
- Removal of the old waterslide; and
- Landscaping improvements.
Federation Council General Manager, Adrian Butler said this highly competitive grant program saw applications from across the state, and Council's successful submission is a testament to the hard work and dedication of staff.
"Works commenced in October 2023 and were completed at the end of June 2024," he said.
"Three internal Council teams collaborated on the grant application and project delivery, demonstrating exceptional project management skills to ensure its successful and timely completion. Their commitment to securing this funding and delivering such a high-quality project is commendable."
Federation Council Mayor, Cr Cheryl Cook said this upgrade is a fantastic win for our community.
"Apex Park and the swim enclosure are vital recreational spaces for locals and visitors alike, and these improvements will ensure everyone can enjoy them safely and comfortably for years to come," Mayor Cook said.
"We're incredibly grateful to the NSW Government for their generous support through the Open Space Program – Places to Swim. This highly competitive funding has allowed us to deliver a truly significant upgrade that will make a real difference to the lives of our residents and visitors. I also want to acknowledge the outstanding work of our council staff who were instrumental in both securing this grant and expertly managing the project to completion."
Mayor Cook said the new all-abilities pontoon is a particularly important addition, as it will make the swim enclosure accessible to everyone, regardless of their mobility.
"We're committed to creating inclusive spaces for all members of our community, and this project is a testament to that commitment," she said.
