Municipal Monitors To Be Appointed For Casey

Following the October 2024 City of Casey council elections, municipal monitors will be appointed for 12 months to guide the incoming Council.

This appointment will support Council to transition back to elected councillors, and ensure the work to restore good governance at Casey is embedded across the organisation.

The monitors will provide Minister for Local Government Melissa Horne MP with regular reports on the City of Casey's progress and of any governance issues that need to be addressed.

The monitors and their terms of reference will be announced in coming months.

The Local Government Act 2020 has been reformed to improve culture, governance and integrity standards across Victoria's councils. This includes a uniform Councillor Code of Conduct to create consistent standards of behaviour and increase accountability, mandatory training for councillors and mayors, annual professional development, stronger sanctions for Councillor misconduct, and improved processes to resolve conduct matters earlier.
