New canoe and kayak launches, new pedestrian links and new facilities at several key visitor sites will be delivered from Barmah National Park to Koondrook as part of Stage One of the trail. The trail will pass through Echuca, Murray River Reserve, Gunbower National Park and Lower Goulburn National Park.

Viewable on the Engage Victoria website, concept designs for six proposed new canoe and kayak launches along the trail have been developed in consultation with local tour operators and the paddling community. Two launch types, a stepped-style launch and a floating pontoon, have been designed to suit the changing river conditions along the length of the trail. Both feature tethering points for watercraft, a non-slip fibre-reinforced plastic top surface, and provide level water access at various river heights.
