The Murray River Emergency Declaration Area for the Murray River from Barham to the border has been revised due to reduced risk as the floodwater peak moves downstream.
Of this revision, Incident Controller Superintendent Shane Hargrave said "this has been an enormously long and challenging period for all river communities and businesses who rely on the Murray River for their success. Being able to return safely after this historic flood event continues their journey towards recovery."
As the river levels continue to fall along with the risk to communities along the Murray River, we have worked tirelessly with our partners including Transport for NSW and the various Local Government agencies to ensure all aspects of safety and concern were considered.
Superintendent Hargrave also stressed the importance of safe river usage with this revision along with reminding "all river users that there are still dangers in the water, and the river banks may have changed, please exercise caution".
Key Points
The Emergency Warning Declaration has been removed for the following areas of the Murray River;
• Murray Eden Homestead to Little Murray River Junction
• Speewa Ferry to Nurtram Billabong
Boat users are reminded that excess wash has the potential to compromise river levees that are currently protecting communities.
