Destination Kiama has this week hosted a NAIDOC Week-inspired Tourism After Hours at Seacliff House in Gerringong.
The event was an initiative of our Tourism Advisory Committee, to help explore and develop the tourism opportunities for our Aboriginal community.
The evening began with an Acknowledgement of Country by Alira Morgan, the Kiama High School student who has just been named Aboriginal Young Achiever of the Year.
Alira also captivated the audience with her performance of her own "Kiama Song".
The event was an opportunity to welcome Keith Brandy, Kiama Council's new Aboriginal Community Liaison Officer, who spoke of his devotion to building and enhancing the relationships and collaboration with our local First Nations people.
Destination Kiama was also able to introduce local company Gumaraa, who provide local cultural experiences.
To round it out, celebrity chef Mark Olive provided First Nations food and bush tucker.
Destination Kiama thanks the Department of Regional NSW (Illawarra/Shoalhaven), for their ongoing support of Tourism After Hours.
Thank you also to our special guests and industry and business representatives for attending these important networking opportunities.
Tourism After Hours is held quarterly and provides updates on the latest tourism happenings, and an opportunity to catch up with industry peers.
If this sounds like something you are interested in, we invite you to explore our partnership program, which works to sustainably grow the Kiama visitor economy.
