Georges River Council is pleased to announce an Expression of Interest (EOI) opportunity to support community-driven initiatives designed and led by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations, businesses, and staff during NAIDOC Week 2025.
NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia in early July each year to celebrate and recognise the histories, cultures and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
In 2025, we celebrate the 50th anniversary of NAIDOC Week during 6 – 13 July. To mark and honour this important milestone, Council is proud to support community-driven initiatives in the Georges River area.
Council's NAIDOC Week 2025 EOI opportunity aligns with Council's recently adopted Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Strategy 2025 – 2030. Council's Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Advisory Committee, Bidjigal Traditional Owners, and other key Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community members contributed significantly to the development of Council's Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Strategy 2025 – 2030. In that strategy, Council commits to partnering and collaborating with local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations to host Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community events, including annual NAIDOC Week activities.
Georges River Council Mayor Elise Borg said, "This is an amazing opportunity for our local organisations and businesses to bring NAIDOC Week celebrations to life.
"I would like to extend my thanks to our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Advisory Committee who have been integral in forming our plan to release an EOI opportunity."
Council invites eligible qualified businesses, organisations, and sole traders to submit their EOI by Monday 21 April 2025.
A panel of Council staff and members of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Advisory Committee will choose successful submissions, with applicants to be notified in early May.
