Celebrate and acknowledge First Nations culture during these school holidays with an action-packed week full of special events, native cuisine, and cultural workshops.

Yarn at The Farm

11am to 2pm Thursday 11 July | Bella Vista Farm

Come have a Yarn at The Farm and celebrate NAIDOC Week in The Hills. We have partnered with local First Nations enterprise Muru Mittigar to recognise and acknowledge Aboriginal culture with FREE arts and crafts workshops, musical performances, and sporting activations. For the first 500 guests there will be FREE First Nations inspired food from the Wilka Thalta food truck, FREE coffee from Hills Daily Grind, and FREE dessert from Wafflepopz.

Family Storytime

10am -10.30am Tuesday 9 July | Vinegar Hill Memorial Library

Listen to two proud Indigenous writers, Leanne Watson and her daughter Rhiannon Wright, as they read from their books, including Cooee Mittigar (co-written with Jasmine Seymour), which explores the ways that Dharug people understood and tracked the seasons.

Aboriginal Cultural Session with Muru Mittigar

10:00am to 12:30pm Wednesday 10 July | Castle Hill Library

Bring kids along to this session with Muru Mittigar to learn about various aspects of Aboriginal culture, history, heritage, traditions, and protocols, as well as ochre hand painting, interactive clapstick dance, and more. Two sessions are available, including one for school years K-2 and another for students in grades 3-6.

Aboriginal Art Workshop with Muru Mittigar (School Years 2-6)

2:00pm to 3:00pm Wednesday 10 July at Castle Hill Library

Kids will design and paint their own personal story using traditional Aboriginal symbols. They will also learn about the different Aboriginal painting styles from across Australia and the differences between each.
