National Cabinet Unveils Funding To End Gender Violence

ACOSS acknowledges the Federal Government's funding announcement to address gender-based violence in Australia, made after the National Cabinet meeting on Friday 6 September.

For far too long, critical frontline services have been under-resourced to deal with this national crisis. We know that there is significant need for services within communities across the country, and that too many people are still not able to access the support they need to escape violent homes and relationships.

It is encouraging to see National Cabinet focussing on this issue. Our sector is currently determining how the newly announced package will directly impact relevant frontline services, and how it will help more people experiencing gender-based violence.

We note too there is concern over whether the package is sufficient to meet the scale of the challenge.
