A number of medals and awards were presented as a part of the National Corrections Day celebration on Friday.

Corrections Day Awards
Promoting a culture of safety: People Capability Command
The award is presented in recognition of their commitment to officer safety through the development and support of processes to respond to industrial and workplace incidents. Accepted by Superintendent Cathy Chee.
Promoting a Culture of Excellence: The Logan City Youthful Client Management Project Team
The project team is being recognised for its work in building trust within the community and reducing barriers between young clients and law enforcement agencies.

Promoting a Culture of Empowerment: Brisbane Women's Correctional Centre - parkrun
The centre is being recognised for implementing parkrun into the Women's Estate, promoting the health and wellbeing of the prisoners, providing the chance to build positive relationships between officers and prisoners, and giving prisoners a sense of community and self-worth.

Promoting a Culture of Respect: Acting Transitional Project Manager, Emily Henderson
Emily is being recognised for her effective and efficient delivery of high-quality psychological services in correctional centres by leading, mentoring and empowering a multi-disciplinary team and its development, while modelling a positive workplace culture and providing exceptional support and empathy to officers and prisoners.
Promoting a Culture of Accountability: Operational Performance Review Team
The Operational Performance Review Team is being recognised for their commitment and dedication to the development of the Organisational Performance Framework and implementation of the OPR process, an active, outcomes-based performance model to support operational areas identify and implement improvements.

Commissioner's Medal for Bravery: Custodial Correctional Officer Kyle Patrech BM
CCO Kyle Patrech was awarded the Commissioner's Medal for Bravery for his intervention during a domestic violence incident in 2018. Kyle put his own safety at risk to protect the life of a woman who was the victim of domestic violence.
Using his training as a Custodial Correctional Officer, Kyle disarmed and detained the person until police arrived.
Commissioner's Certificate of Acknowledgement: Jaki Patrech
Jaki is recognised for her actions in the same incident of domestic and family violence.
Her instincts, quick thinking and bravery likely assisted in saving the life of the victim.
Commissioner's Medal for Excellence for leadership: Assistant Commissioner, Central and Northern Region Command, Peter Shaddock
Assistant Commissioner Shaddock is awarded the Commissioner's Medal for Excellence for his exceptional, compassionate and invaluable leadership.
Mr Shaddock's unwavering commitment to the wellbeing of officers of all ranks, divisions and commands makes him a role model for leaders throughout QCS.
The award is presented in recognition of his empathy and care for minority groups, vulnerable prisoners, and substantially improving conditions for those incarcerated across Queensland.
Commissioner's Meritorious and Ethical Service Medal: Assistant Commissioner, Specialist Operations, Sarah Hyde
Assistant Commissioner Hyde is recognised for her professionalism, exceptional leadership and commitment to community safety.
Assistant Commissioner Hyde prides herself on building collaborative partnerships with academics and external stakeholders to advance workforce capability and improve the professional practices of her workforce.
Ms Hyde embodies the QCS values and leads a diverse and committed workforce who individually and collectively make a significant contribution to community safety through Community Corrections.
Commissioner's Meritorious and Ethical Service Medal: Assistant Commissioner, Community Corrections, Samantha Newman
Assistant Commissioner Newman is awarded the Commissioner's Meritorious and Ethical Service Medal for her passionate, dynamic and innovative leadership within corrections.
The award is presented in recognition of her clinical and operational expertise, and steadfast commitment to improving outcomes for prisoners and offenders across Queensland.
Ms Newman is a strong, positive and influential leader who inspires all officers to be high performing and innovative professionals.
Long Service and Good Conduct Medal: Community Corrections Supervisor, the late Sarah Sullivan (nee Bishop)
This medal is posthumously awarded to Sarah for her career in QCS, which began in 2009 as an Administration Officer.
During her time in QCS, Sarah expanded her knowledge in many roles, including Senior Case Manager and most recently as Supervisor, across the Roma, Charleville and Toowoomba offices.
Sarah was a much-loved and admired member of the Southern Region team for over 10 years.
Sarah is survived by her husband Clint and their four children.
