National Electric Vehicle Strategy Update

Dept of Climate Change, Energy, Environment & Water

The National Electric Vehicle Strategy (the Strategy) update for 2023-24 is now available.

Since the release of the Strategy in April 2023, the EV landscape in Australia has transformed at an unprecedented pace. Increased EV model availability and affordability has meant Australia's EV uptake and charging infrastructure has nearly doubled over the last year.

The objective of the Strategy is to increase the uptake of Electric Vehicles (EVs) to reduce our emissions and improve the wellbeing of Australians.

The strategy reports on 6 outcomes:

  • expanded EV availability and choice
  • reduce road transport emissions
  • make it easy to charge an EV across Australia
  • increase local manufacturing and recycling
  • make EVs more affordable
  • reduce the cost to Australians of running their vehicles.

Each year, we measure how the government is progressing towards these outcomes. We also highlight the government's progress towards new and existing initiatives and any notable highlights over the last year.
