National Mental Health Group Meets September 2024

The National Mental Health Sector Reference Group (NMHSRG) met online on 19 September 2024 for their fourth meeting of the year.

The Chairperson opened the meeting with an acknowledgement of lived experience and its importance to the work of this group.

Focus of the meeting

The meeting covered:

  • Feedback from the first meeting of the NMHSRG Lived Experience Sub-Group.
  • Update from the NDIA on legislative changes, including implementation approach and activities.
  • Update from Department of Health and Aged Care on the Unmet Psychosocial Needs Report.
  • Presentation form Fraud Fusion Taskforce.
  • Update from the NDIA on early intervention pathway improvements for people with psychosocial disability.

NMHSRG Lived Experience Sub-Group

Representative of the group reported key feedback from their last meeting, including the importance of the NDIA implementing reforms for psychosocial participants and continuing the

co-design process underway.

Legislative changes

Deputy CEO Service Design and Improvement NDIA, Corri McKenzie outlined the implementation approach and activities relating to recent legislative changes to the NDIS Act.

Update: Unmet Psychosocial Needs Report

Director from the Psychosocial and Complex Mental Health Section of the Department of Health and Aged Care, Derek James gave an update on the Unmet Psychosocial Needs Report, including the report's recommendations and actions.

Fraud Fusion Taskforce

Branch Manager of the Fraud Fusion Taskforce, Richard Honey, gave an overview of the scope of fraud prevention work currently being undertaken by the NDIA.

Psychological Early Intervention Supports

Strategic Advisor, Psychosocial Disability and Mental Health, Dr Gerry Naughtin gave an update on the co-design working group's workplan and consultation approach and a discussion on the proposed psychosocial early intervention support pathway.

NMHSRG Next Meeting

The next meetings of the National Mental Health Sector Reference Group and Lived Experience Sub-Group will be held online on Thursday 14 November 2024.
