The Federa1 Government's Coordinator-General of the National Recovery and Resilience Agency, the Hon Shane L Stone AC QC, is this week meeting with communities in south-east Queensland that are continuing their recovery from the 2019-20 Black Summer bushfires.
Mr Stone is visiting communities from Warwick to Beaudesert, including Peregian Beach on the Sunshine Coast where homes were destroyed by a bushfire that ripped through the area in September 2019.
Mr Stone said the Prime Minister's National Recovery and Resilience Agency continues to stand with individuals and communities impacted by the bushfires.
"The Australian Government has so far delivered $2.4 billion of the $2.8 billion that's available to support communities, which includes $1.7 billion from the National Bushfire Recovery Fund," Mr Stone said.
"Right now $280 million through the Black Summery Bushfire Recovery grants is on the table for eligible communities to spend on projects that are a priority for their community and their recovery. I'm strongly urging eligible groups to get their applications in by the deadline, 6 October.
"As well, I want to reinforce the message that we all: individuals, families, communities, local councils, businesses – everyone – need to be as ready as we can be for the next disaster.
"Yes, we have to be there to help people mop up and build back after a disaster hits
