Native Plant Giveaway Returns

Darwin City Council

City of Darwin's popular native plant giveaway returns on Saturday 12 April at Jingilli Watergardens, with 2000 native plants available for Darwin residents.

City of Darwin Chief Executive Officer, Simone Saunders, said the native plant giveaways are part of Council's efforts to enhance the city's natural landscape and support sustainable urban living.

"We are incredibly proud of our native plant giveaways, which have proven to be a great success year after year," Ms Saunders said.

"Each financial year we will distribute over 15,000 free plants which contribute to creating a cool, clean and green city.

"Native plants help reduce urban heat, improve air quality and provide critical habitat for local wildlife," she said.

The native species on offer have been specially selected to thrive in Darwin's unique climate and there will be a variety of native trees, shrubs and grasses available.

The giveaway will run from 8am to 11am and is open to Darwin residents only.

Each household may collect up to six plants, and proof of residency is required.
