Nature Repair Committee Established

The Australian Government has announced the appointment of the Nature Repair Committee.

The Nature Repair Act 2023 establishes the Nature Repair Committee. It is comprised of a chair and 5 members. The committee supports the integrity and transparency of Australia's Nature Repair Market.

The members are:

  • Mr Stephen McCutcheon (Chair)
  • Dr James Fitzsimons
  • Mr Brendan Foran
  • Mr Tyronne Garstone
  • Ms Fiona Simpson
  • Ms Siobhan Toohill

Committee members have substantial experience, knowledge, and significant standing in the following fields:

  • agriculture
  • biological or ecological science
  • economics
  • environmental markets
  • Indigenous knowledge
  • land management

The committee provides independent, expert advice to the Minister for the Environment. Their responsibilities include:

  • advising the minister on the development and prioritisation of methods and biodiversity assessment instruments
  • assessing compliance of methods with biodiversity integrity standards
  • undertaking reviews and public consultation on key elements of the Nature Repair Market.
