The structure for Nepean Hospital's new Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) Unit is now complete, marking a significant milestone for the project.
The purpose-built unit will transform mental health care for young people aged 12 to 17 years old across the region, which is being delivered as part of the NSW Government's $700 million Statewide Mental Health Infrastructure Program.
Located on the Nepean Hospital campus, the new Unit will be co-located with the Nepean Mental Health Unit, streamlining care for patients and their families.
Designed in collaboration with young people, carers, and staff, the new unit will include:
- 10 single bedrooms with ensuites
- A secure indoor communal area and private outdoor courtyard
- Consultation rooms and workspaces
- A dedicated sensory room, learning centre, and media room
- Staff support and administration areas.
The design aims to ensure young people feel safe, supported and comfortable during their stay in the CAMHS Unit.
Work will soon progress on the steel framing, roofing and external cladding.
Construction is due to be completed in 2025, with the new unit ready to accept patients following an operational commissioning period.
