Net Zero Economic Authority Names New CEO

Dept of Climate Change, Energy, Environment & Water

The Australian Government has appointed David Shankey as the first Chief Executive Officer of the Net Zero Economy Authority (NZEA).

This news comes as the government's Future Made in Australia legislation passed the Parliament of Australia. This is a step in positioning Australia as a leader in the global push toward net zero emissions.

Mr Shankey brings experience in energy and climate policy, having led Queensland's 10-year Energy and Jobs Plan as Deputy Director-General.

The Authority's mission includes working with communities to maximise the opportunities in clean energy, including:

  • regional communities
  • employer/employee organisations
  • First Nations groups.

Mr Shankey will help ensure Australian workers, industries and communities benefit as we shift to a decarbonised economy.
