The Albanese Government congratulates Mr Hugh Marks on his appointment as Managing Director of the ABC for a term of 5 years, from 10 March 2025.
The ABC Board holds responsibility for the appointment of the ABC Managing Director under section 13 of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation Act 1983. This appointment was made by the ABC Board, following a competitive selection process.
As Managing Director, Mr Marks will bring over 30 years' experience in broadcasting both in Australia and abroad. He has held roles as CEO and senior executive across content production, content distribution, platform development, broadcasting and digital media and has experience across television, radio, print and digital publishing.
Mr Marks will take over from the current Managing Director, Mr David Anderson, who in August 2024 announced his intention to leave the ABC.
Mr Anderson has been instrumental at the ABC since being appointed Managing Director in May 2019. Mr Anderson began his career at the ABC in 1989 and as Managing Director, he has played a pivotal role in leading the ABC's transition from a traditional broadcaster into a modern digital media organisation.
The role of the Managing Director is a critical part of the ABC leadership to ensure the ABC delivers on its Charter to produce content informing, entertaining and representative of the Australian public.
