The Minns Labor Government has appointed Mr Jeff Smith as the new NSW Ageing and Disability Commissioner.
The Commission plays a critical role in protecting older people and adults with disability from abuse, neglect, and exploitation across the state.
Mr Smith will commence in the role on 21 April, bringing extensive experience in executive and governance positions, and a strong background in disability advocacy, social justice, community legal services, and environmental law advocacy.
Most recently, Mr Smith held the role of Chief Executive Officer of Disability Advocacy Network Australia, the peak body for independent advocates in Australia. Prior to this, he served as CEO of the Environmental Defenders Office NSW for 14 years and later led People with Disability Australia.
Mr Smith succeeds the inaugural NSW Ageing and Disability Commissioner, Robert Fitzgerald AM, and Kathryn McKenzie who has been Acting Commissioner since April 2024.
