A purchase of 3036m2 of land to upgrade a community facility in Wyee was recommended at tonight's Lake Macquarie City Council meeting, held at Avondale University in Cooranbong.

The $1.5 million purchase on Wyee Road would allow Council to upgrade the general community space, incorporating children's and youth facilities.

Part of the site plan, which adjoins the existing Wyee Community Hall Reserve, is to upgrade the local park to include a new and improved playground.

Mayor Adam Shultz said the project would deliver another well-used community asset.

"Council is committed to providing improved open spaces, which will provide significant benefits to the local community," he said.

"This proposal will facilitate the development of a new community facility in Wyee to meet the demands of future population growth.

"We're excited to deliver a new and upgraded playground for a range of active recreation activities for families to enjoy together."

The properties at 120, 122 and 124 Wyee Road were identified for acquisition in the Morisset Catchment Development Contributions Plan 2012.

Councillors also recommended the purchase of 499m2 of land at Fassifern for road widening.

The full agenda and reports are available at meeting agendas and minutes.

The stream of tonight's meeting will be available online at lakemac.com.au within 48 hours.
