New Appointments To Australian Heritage Council

The Australian Government has announced the appointment of 5 members to the Australian Heritage Council (AHC).

The appointments include:

  • a new chair, the Hon Bob Carr, the former NSW Premier
  • historic heritage experts Ms Kristal Buckley AM and Professor Richard Mackay AM
  • Indigenous heritage experts Ms Leah Cameron and Mr Jamie Lowe will return for a second term.

The AHC is the main adviser to the Australian Government on heritage matters and assessing nominations for the National and Commonwealth Heritage Lists. It has also provided input on legislative reforms under the Nature Positive Plan.

The appointments follow the departure of the Hon Ted Baillieu AO, who served as chair for 3 years, as well as historic heritage experts Professor Liz Vines OAM and Professor Helen Lochhead AO.
