New Appointments to Federal Circuit and Family Court

I am pleased to announce the appointments of Alexandra Colquhoun, Gregory Shoebridge and Benjamin Zipser as Judges to the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia (Division 2).

Ms Colquhoun and Mr Shoebridge have been appointed to the Sydney Registry, and Mr Zipser has been appointed to the Parramatta Registry of the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia (Division 2). They will commence on 16 September 2024.

These appointments have been made following an open call for expressions of interest across Australia. All applications were considered by an advisory panel comprised of eminent individuals.

On behalf of the Australian Government, I congratulate Ms Colquhoun, Mr Shoebridge and Mr Zipser on their appointments and thank them for their willingness to serve the people of Australia as Judges of the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia (Division 2).

Biographical Details

Alexandra Colquhoun

Ms Colquhoun graduated from the University of Sydney with a Bachelor of Arts and subsequently attained a Bachelor of Laws in 1994. She also holds a Master of Arts from the University of Sydney, and a Master of Laws (Hons) from the University of Technology Sydney. Ms Colquhoun was admitted to the Supreme Court of New South Wales in 1994.

Gregory Shoebridge

Mr Shoebridge graduated from the Queensland University of Technology with a Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Business (Accountancy) in 1994. He also holds a Master of Laws from the Queensland University of Technology. Mr Shoebridge was admitted to the Supreme Court of Queensland in 1996 and called to the Queensland Bar in 2008.

Benjamin Zipser

Mr Zipser graduated from the University of New South Wales with a Bachelor of Commerce and a Bachelor of Laws in 1992. He also holds a Bachelor of Civil Law from the University of Oxford. Mr Zipser was admitted to the Supreme Court of New South Wales in 1992 and was called to the New South Wales Bar in 1999.
