New art at Newtown ArtSeat

Inner West Council

The latest ArtSeat is a post-COVID reminder that "beautiful times will come again."

The ArtSeat features colourful images of dancing, relaxing, singing and other fun activities.

"My concept is simple," said artist Mel O'Dell of the work entitled Been a while.

"I just want to bring some brightness to the seat and remind people of summer, fun memories and that beautiful times will come again."

O'Dell is an emerging Newcastle-based artist working in the medium of painting and paper craft/collage. Her work aims to bring people joy through its playfulness and vibrancy.

Council's ArtSeat is a permanent structure in Newtown Square that provides local, emerging and established artists with a space where experimental and non-commercial art can be showcased.

Incorporating public seating and lighting, the ArtSeat is also a landmark meeting point.
