The new emergency services precinct at Caloundra South is in the final stages of construction and is expected to be completed in the coming months.

Minister for Police and Community Safety, Mark Ryan MP today joined local MP, Jason Hunt MP and Assistant Commissioner Glenn Morris for a tour of the new facility and for an update on construction.

The precinct, near the new Bells Creek Arterial Road, will include a brand new 24-hour Caloundra South Police Station with an Approved Police Strength of 30 officers.

In readiness for the new Station, some of these new officers have already been delivered and are currently hosted at the nearby Caloundra Police Station.

Commissioning of the new Caloundra South Police Station is expected, on schedule, in August 2024.

In addition to general-duty first response officers, the $13.5 million station will also be home to district and other police support functions, including plain-clothes detectives from the Child Protection Investigation Unit and the Criminal Investigation Branch.

Caloundra South is also the location of an additional facility, with the Miles Government providing $15 million in funding towards building a new Police Citizens Youth Club (PCYC) facility as part of Queensland's Community Safety Plan.

While the location of the new PCYC is currently subject to further consultation with key stakeholders, work on the concept and design plans is already underway with the first glimpse of the PCYC designs being unveiled today.

Quotes As put by the Minister for Police and Community Safety Mark Ryan:

"This new precinct is a necessary step to support the rapid growth of the Caloundra South area.

"It's a fantastic investment that ensures both local police numbers and facilities are growing at the same rate as the community.

"These facilities provide the Caloundra South community and its surroundings a 24-hour police response and presence directly in the neighbourhood, as well as being supported by other Sunshine Coast-based officers.

"The Miles Government's additional investment of $15M towards building a new Police Citizens Youth Club also shows its dedication to giving young Queenslanders the best start in life and delivering a safer community."

As stated by the Member for Caloundra, Jason Hunt:

"As the Sunshine Coast grows, community safety must be one of our priorities which is why this new police facility is so important.

"It delivers the boost to resources the officers will need, and adds more officers to this beautiful region of ours, enhancing our community safety.

"In addition, the Miles Government has delivered a $15 million PCYC which will deliver facilities for the youth in our home town to receive mentorship, and learn a variety of skills.

"This investment in our young people will enhance community safety, and give them a solid foundation to build themselves up.

As stated by Assistant Commissioner Glenn Morris:

"The Sunshine Coast is only getting busier, so we've ensured this station has the physical capacity to grow and accommodate additional resources over time, ensuring this not only meets the community expectations of police being able to keep them safe but also into the future.

"These extra resources are in addition to the existing staff and facilities at Caloundra Police Station, which will remain at its current location.

"We're committed to ensuring the Caloundra South community feels safe in their own neighbourhood."

As stated by Queensland PCYC CEO Phil Schultz:

"This investment from the Queensland Government for this new facility will allow PCYC Queensland to support building safer, healthier communities through youth development in the Sunshine Coast region.

Along with our range of youth programs such as dropin and after dark sporting activities a community gym and multipurpose spaces- this centre will truly cater for the community.

"Investing in our young people's personal and leadership development has a ripple effect on their families and the wider community.
