New CEO For Torres Strait Regional Authority

Minister for Indigenous Australians

The Albanese Government has appointed Mr Charlie Kaddy as CEO of the Torres Strait Regional Authority (TSRA) for a three-year term.

Mr Kaddy has been acting in the position since 2024 and previously was acting CEO with the Gur A Baradharaw Kod Torres Strait Sea and Land Council.

A proud Dauareb man from the Meriam Nation, Mr Kaddy has extensive experience in governance and leadership programs for the TSRA and brings a wealth of knowledge to the role.

He will be supported by the TSRA Board, comprising 20 democratically elected Torres Strait Islander and Aboriginal members from across its communities.

The TSRA plays a vital role in advancing the social, cultural and economic aspirations of Torres Strait Islander communities.

As a corporate Commonwealth entity established under the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Act 2005 (ATSI Act), the TSRA is uniquely placed to preserve Ailan Kastom (island custom), implement community programs, shape regional policies and provide culturally specific advice and support for Torres Strait Islander and Aboriginal people living in the Torres Strait region.

Mr Kaddy's appointment follows a competitive merit-based recruitment process conducted by the National Indigenous Australians Agency.
